Erich Vieth

Erich Vieth

Erich is a life-long resident of St. Louis, graduating from Saint Louis University School of Law in 1981. Prior to attending law school, he majored in Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Missouri – St. Louis.

Much of Erich’s practice of law has been in the area of civil litigation. Particular areas of emphasis have included tort litigation, appellate practice, commercial law, product liability, consumer law, class actions and intellectual property. He has often ended up as the point person for preparing complex briefs and motions. On numerous occasions, Erich has argued complex dispositive motions and appeals before Federal and state trial courts and appellate courts.

From 1986-1990, Erich served as Assistant Attorney General for the state of Missouri, investigating and litigating civil and criminal consumer and commercial fraud cases. His favorite part of that job was designing and prosecuting sting operations in order to catch businesses that prey on consumers. His other areas of concentration as an AAG included prosecuting fraud in the areas of automobile sales and repairs, health care, telemarketing, diploma mills, deceptive pricing and charity fraud.

Erich has practiced before numerous circuit courts of the states of Missouri and Illinois, the Federal District Courts of the Eastern District of Missouri and the Southern District of Illinois, the Federal Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.

More recently, Erich has participated in the planning, development and implementation of this Simon Passanante website.

He made his decision to pursue law because he enjoyed the intellectual challenge. He has repeatedly experienced, however, that the practice of law offers terrific opportunities to learn from the experiences of new interesting people every day. At Simon Passanante, Erich has truly enjoyed working with his high-energy and dedicated co-workers.

Erich has written a number of posts for our blogs.  You can read his article about arbitration at this post.   To read a post about the history of usury laws, click here.  What are the consequences for consumers who don’t read the fine print of mass-produced forms?  Go here for important information.

Erich resides with his wife Anne and their two young daughters (JuJu and Charlotte) in the Shaw neighborhood of the City of St. Louis. He often commutes to work by bicycle. One of his passions is playing music (guitar, percussion and keyboard). Another is studying and writing about cognitive science.
