AvandiaGate - The Latest
September 13th, 2007 by Todd HagemanAccording to Pharmalot, the New England Journal of Medicine has published a new report that shows the risk of suffering from a heart attack when taking GlaxoSmithKline’s Avandia increases. However, studies showed that there was an 18% reduction in heart attacks, strokes and deaths in the use of Takeda’s Actos. Both drugs currently have “Black Box” warnings.
This study confirms much of the meta analysis performed by Dr. Steve Nissen, the Cleveland Clinic researcher who had been under fire for publishing reports on the detrimental effects of Avandia.
