Veterans Affairs curbs Avandia use

October 23rd, 2007 by Todd Hageman

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs conducted their own review into the effects of the diabetes drug Avandia and decided earlier this month to limit dispensing the drug to their patients, Pharmalot reports.

A GlaxoSmithKline spokeswoman told the New York Times that the VA accounts for eight percent of Avandia’s sales.  Before last May, it was a $2 billion seller in the U.S.  That same month, reports appeared that linked the diabetes drug with cardiovascular problems.
