Paul J. Passanante moderates legal seminar

The full-day legal seminar, “The Defense of Medical Malpractice Cases after Tort Reform,” was held in St. Louis. The program reviewed the sweeping changes made in Missouri when House Bill 393 took effect in 2005. Passanante planned the program and was one of eight attorney faculty members who spoke.
Passanante has written numerous articles on the impact of tort reform on medical negligence cases in Missouri and lectured extensively on the topic. At the July 27 seminar, Passanante provided an overview of tort reform changes for both plaintiff and defense attorneys who attended the program.
Following the seminar, Passanante noted, “Juries are extremely reluctant to award verdicts to plaintiffs in medical negligence actions. Lawyers who represent plaintiffs in these cases must therefore do everything they can to master the applicable law. By regular participation in continuing legal education programs sponsored by the Missouri Bar, we use our best efforts to do just that.”
