Goodyear Load Range E Tires – Tread Separation

August 12th, 2007 by John Campbell

In Clark County, Nevada, a jury awarded three families who lost loved ones due to tread separation and a resulting accident a $30 million judgment.  The verdict was against Goodyear tire and focused on problems with their Load Range E tires, size LT245/75R16.  These tires are designed for light trucks and may be used on 15 passenger vans and ambulances.
Despite losing the case, Goodyear argued that documents obtained during preparation for the trial contained confidential trade secrets.  The court agreed and did not allow the documents to be disclosed. As a result, there is still a tremendous amount that is not known about the extent of the problems with Load Range E tires.
